Looking to still plan a romantic wedding proposal during the pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought huge challenges for people all across the world. If you are one of the many couples who were planning to get engaged or married this year, you might be feeling a bit heavy-hearted.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a large impact on the wedding industry across the country including us here at Sightsailing. Every season, we do a large number of engagements, bachelorette parties, and pre and post-wedding sails. Many sails scheduled for this season have either been cancelled or have been postponed to 2021.
It’s not all bad news though. Despite the challenges of coronavirus, many couples are still pushing ahead with plans for more intimate proposals and weddings.
We recently spoke to jewelry retailer Blue Nile to share our best advice for planning the perfect marriage proposal, even during the pandemic.
Here at Sightsailing, we can still make your dreams of popping the question on the water a reality. Starlight, our 34’ sailboat, has not been affected by the current restrictions. Starlight sails by private charter only and takes just 2-6 guests.
As a result of her small group size, Starlight has not been saddled with any type of capacity restrictions by the state. And since she often sails with just two guests, Starlight is our most popular boat for engagement sails. Despite the pandemic, people are still optimistic, looking ahead, and getting engaged!

Starlight sails from late May through early October and offers four sails a day including a sunset sail. Each sail is two hours.
Newport is the sailing capital of the world and home to one of the prettiest harbors in the country. No other venue has more spectacular seaside estates, a prettier shoreline, and a historic town with great restaurants and romantic places to stay than Newport.
On a typical sail, guests sail through Newport Harbor, into Narragansett Bay and along the shoreline of Newport’s Ocean Drive. The scenery is spectacular and the sailing is first-rate.
Guests may participate in the sailing or sit back and relax. No experience is required. Since we sail in the protected waters of Narragansett Bay, the sail is very smooth and seasickness is not an issue.
If you’d like to make your sail extra special we suggest ordering a bottle of champagne from Vickers’ Liquors who will deliver it for free to Bowen’s Wharf. The captain can sneak the bottle on before you board and depart. Once you’ve popped the question, you can look like a planner and impress with champagne. You could even arrange someone to be waiting with flowers upon your return.
There really is no better place to propose to your special someone that is quintessentially Newport, than a sailboat on Narragansett Bay!
